A brief history of the TikTok
The platform was born in China in 2016, as a product of ByteDance, a company specialized in internet technology. It was initially launched under the name of Douyin. Given the remarkable success at home, a year later the app was also launched on the international market, under the name of TikTok.
In November 2017, ByteDance invests $ 1 billion in the acquisition of musical.ly, a Shanghai-based startup and an office in Santa Monica, California. The musical.ly owned the eponymous and popular social media platform, dedicated to the US teen market. Born in 2014, the musical.ly platform gave users the opportunity to create short videos with lip-sync (playback) and other features.
Starting in August 2018, the TikTok and musical.ly platforms have merged keeping the TikTok name.
Currently, TikTok is available in over 150 countries and has been translated into 75 languages. In October 2018, the app was the most downloaded in the United States.
Of course, its popularity has also been fueled by some celebrities who have sensed its potential and use it to promote their image.
TikTok (including Douyin) in February 2019, has exceeded one billion downloads globally.
The 5 things you need to know before joining TikTok
It seems yesterday that the novelty of the moment was to download Snapchat and send selfies with dog ears to friends. In his glory days, before Instagram introduced the possibility of making temporary stories, Snapchat was the typical millennial app: a means of publishing photos and content that you would soon regret, trusting that they would self-destruct after a day. Today that the demographic range of Generation Z (people born between 1997 and 2010) is adult enough to make important decisions such as voting and publishing on the Internet, their reference app is TikTok: a platform through which to share videos that do not disappear indeed, they want to become as viral as possible. Here are five things to know before deciding if you want to be part of it (but are you really sure?).
1) Give me one minute
Produced by the Chinese company ByteDance, TikTok is a social network based on the creation of videos of up to sixty seconds from a backing track. In 2017 TikTok merged with musical.ly, an app that allowed to share karaoke videos and choreographies. Today it has a very rich catalog of music, which users can use as a background for videos of all types: there are comic pieces, challenges (or challenges) between users, clips that aspire to become memes, ballets, parkour (moving from point to point in an obstacle course), lip-sync and so on.
2) He is the heir of Vine, a YouTube son, and the main competitor of Instagram
Many have noted the similarity of TikTok with Vine, a video platform closed in 2017 after its main users had moved to Instagram and YouTube. TikTok is trying to compete with the latter on the most important point, that is, the money, allowing creators and influencers to earn from their videos. For the moment it works: in 2018 TikTok was the most downloaded app in the United States, surpassing the American Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.
3) Fiorello has already arrived
In VivaRaiPlay !, the program that has been running on the Rai platform since October, Fiorello hosted nineteen-year-old Luciano Spinelli (seven million and one hundred thousand followers on TikTok) to make him a sketch in which he teaches the director of Tg1 to perform a typical TikTok choreography. Fiorello himself managed to create short videos that fit perfectly into the app’s aesthetics: the thirty-second parkour at the beginning of an episode or his remake of Lucio Battisti in trap sauce is all contents that would depopulate on TikTok.
4) To tell the truth, Salvini is now too
And speaking of adults seeking consensus among children: before pressing the download button, remember that you will also find Salvini there. The ballet on the terrace that the Northern League leader published on TikTok (a very dirty terrace among other things: a veiled stance by the pigeons?) Attracted him mostly criticisms, made fun of and Gabriele Muccino’s comment: «is a new Chinese social network attended by young people aged 14 to 16 to express their desire to sing, be light and play. Bringing politics into it is a real slap in the face of those who don’t want to hear about politics. Leave them alone. Leave them clean ». The minimum age to register on TikTok is thirteen, but there is a suspicion that it would be much more useful to introduce a maximum age.
5) You shouldn’t have it
Unless you are an apprehensive parent of teenagers, or desperately in need of visibility (a disease that is usually cured by going to the psychoanalyst, opening a Twitter account or applying for liberal leaders), after the twenty-five years it is not advisable to enroll in TikTok. Here is a possible list of alternative activities: recovering TV series, reading Ferrante’s new book, betting with friends that in the next Muccino film Stefano Accorsi will shout at Valeria Solarino that it is her fault, if their only daughter is always on TikTok.
What is TikTok?
So let’s get acquainted with this platform so loved by the youth audience, which is having moderate success even among a more adult audience and above all it is attracting more and more people related to the world of entertainment.
In fact, the application allows users to create short music clips from 3 to 15 seconds, and short loop videos from 3 to 60 seconds.
These are content focused on creativity and individual expression. TikTok is in fact equipped with some particular effects and filters that can be applied to create engaging and hypnotic videos. Let’s see some features:
Background music. When creating a music video, you can choose which song to associate with your images, from a wide variety of genres. For example, you can perform in a dance or a skill performance, or take advantage of lip-syncing functionality and show your singing skills.
Speed regulation. Changing the video playback speed has never been easier. You have 5-speed options for your videos: Time-lapse (slowed frame rate), Slow, Normal, Fast, Epic (accelerated frame rate).
Filters. There are several predefined effects that allow you to customize your videos.
Sharing. You can share your video works with other users on TikTok, or on other social platforms.
Other features present in TikTok:
Duets. This function allows you to create videos with duets, through montages. This feature was part of musical.ly
React. With this feature, you can film your reaction to a specific video.
How to use TikTok
As you will have understood by reading the previous paragraph, you can use TikTok even if you are not registered with the app. By downloading the application, you can watch videos shared by users of the social network who have a public account by default. Anything shared by the latter will therefore also be visible to you. However, since he is not a member, the main limitation will be that of not being able to publish. If you intend to use the application to make videos and have fun publishing them, you will need to create an account on TikTok!
To understand how TikTok is used, we thought to extrapolate what in recent years has been considered by the lovers of social networks as the strengths of this app. We collected them for you in the following places:
Immediate and non-demanding feed: unlike other social media, such as Instagram and Facebook, this application does not ask you to engage yourself with “concrete” actions to show you the contents published by other users. What does this mean? That you can scroll through the application feed without having to send requests to follow other accounts, leave likes or comments. The application will show you videos of trends or people in the vicinity of your position and thanks to artificial intelligence software it will try to learn your tastes even just by observing how long you will focus on one video rather than another;
Interactions between “innovative” and original users: TikTok allows users to leave reactions, likes and comments under the videos of other subscribers as is usually the case in other social networks, but not only. In fact, the application incentives to create interactions between users in the form of videos: more than incentivizing the classic comments between users, TikTok favors interaction with video responses to those published by creating a kind of really original and atypical hit and response for other social. Very interesting is the possibility of making “duets” by replicating and reinterpreting the video made by another user or simply quoting it and “carrying on the song or the scene”;
#hashtag: this is not a real novelty compared to other social networks. Also on TikTok, it is possible to classify and group your posts by assigning them hashtags. What is interesting to note is that the virality of the videos published on this platform has favored the spread of hashtags that launch real challenges to other users. The very famous challenges that we see depopulated on various social networks, in fact, often arise from videos that have become viral on this app!
How TikTok works?
So let’s see how this brand new social works.
We go to the App Store or Google Play Store and download the app.
It must be said that TikTok can be accessed even without registration. Of course, you will only be able to view public videos, but you will not be able to interact with the content, let alone create your own. So to make the most of creativity and your personal expression you need to register a TikTok account.
How to Create a TikTok account?
You can choose to create a TikTok account by entering your email or phone number and a password, or log in via your Facebook, Google, Instagram or Twitter profile.
The default app will create a public profile, but keep in mind that you can set your account as “private”. With a private profile, you decide whom to show your content to, or better, whom to make it visible. Hence, TikTok allows you to be visible to everyone (without limitations) or to a limited number of users. Users authorized by you can view your videos and interact with your content (likes, comments, sharing, etc.).
However, regardless of whether your account is private or public, you can choose from time to time with whom to share your latest video, setting it to “public”, “friends only” or “private”.
The TikTok interface
Once registered you will notice that the app offers you a series of videos in your feed, which have been selected by the artificial intelligence of TikTok which collects information about your interests and preferences, through your interactions with the contents and the type of users you follow. In your feed, therefore, there will be personalized content in line with your tastes and interests.
The graphical interface of the platform is very similar to Instagram.
From your profile page you can get a summary of your activity on TikTok: the videos you have published, how many users you follow (Following), how many followers you have (Fans) and how many likes you are collecting (Hearts). You can edit your profile to personalize it with a photo, a bio, etc. In addition, always from your profile page you can create your videos and express all your imagination and skills.

How to Register and Create an Account on TikTok
Taking the first steps on TikTok is very easy. First of all, just download from your smartphone store to install it in a few minutes on your phone and start using it.
After downloading the application, there are two ways to access TikTok:
Log in by creating a new account;
Log in to TikTok with your Musical.ly account.
In the first case, to create an account from scratch, you need to enter your email or phone number. It is also possible to speed up the operation by choosing to register via social accounts, thus taking advantage of the data already entered on Facebook, Twitter or your Gmail. To continue, you must enter your date of birth (the minimum age limit to be able to use the application is set at 13 years). At this point, you will have created your account on Tik Tok.
Another possibility to access TikTok is reserved for those who used Musical.ly in the past. Having an old Musically account, after starting the TikTok application, just press the little man icon located in the bottom menu bar and press the Login button on the screen that appears. Once this is done, just enter the username (or email address) and password that was previously used to access Musical.ly, then pressing the √ button you will log in with your profile and thus find all the previously published videos.
Users who have created a new account will have the opportunity to set their own profile page (which will be very similar to that of Instagram, with a round profile photo and the feed of the uploaded videos and the icon at the top right for Settings) . Once the account is set up, all you have to do is find out how TikTok works!
How to have two accounts on TikTok
One of your favorite social networks is undoubtedly TikTok: you really like his short videos in lip-sync and you can no longer do without them. In this regard, you are looking for a solution that allows you to use a second account as well, as you would like to start over “from scratch” and start interacting with the users of the platform with a new profile.
How do you say? This is exactly how things are and, therefore, you wonder how to have two accounts on TikTok? In this case, do not worry: I can help you and provide you with all the information useful for carrying out this operation, using the official app of the social network, which is available for both Android and iOS. In addition, I will tell you about some alternative solutions that will allow you to take advantage of two accounts on the same device or on two different devices.
Having said that, if you are curious to know more and, if you can’t wait to start, sit comfortably and take your smartphone in hand. Follow carefully the instructions I am about to give you, in order to put them into practice, and you can be assured that you will succeed in the intent you have proposed. At this point, I just have to wish you a good read and, above all, good fun!
If you wonder how to have two accounts on TikTok, you must first consider that, unlike other social networks, such as Instagram, TikTok does not have a feature that allows you to add multiple accounts and quickly switch between them.
The only official solution that, therefore, allows you to use two accounts in TikTok for Android and iOS is to log out of the account currently connected to the app and then log in with the second account. Clearly, in case you don’t already have two TikTok accounts, you need to register again to the service to create a new profile.
There are, however, also alternative solutions: install the TikTok app on a second smartphone, in order to use the two accounts simultaneously on two different devices or, only on Android, install a third-party application capable of “cloning “the TikTok app, thus allowing access to another account with the same device.
Having said that, don’t worry: during the next chapters of this tutorial I will explain in detail how to proceed using all the solutions just mentioned.
How to have two accounts on TikTok
Having made the necessary premises, let’s start the practical part of this tutorial: let’s see, step by step, how to have two accounts on TikTok through the official social network app for Android and iOS, through the procedure for registering a second account and the access to the latter.
How to make two accounts on TikTok
As mentioned above, to have two accounts on TikTok you need to create a second profile, registering for the service again, if necessary.
Having said that, after downloading the TikTok app from the Play Store on Android (press the Install button) or from the iOS App Store (first press on getting, then unlock the download and installation via the Face ID, the Touch ID or password of your iCloud account), start it by pressing its icon on the home screen of your smartphone.
When the app starts, press on the little man icon located at the bottom right, then tap on the entry Subscribe by phone or email. Alternatively, to register faster, press the buttons relating to the Facebook, Google, Twitter or Instagram services, to register via the account of one of these other social networks.
If, on the other hand, you have chosen to register via your telephone number or using the e-mail address, fill in the following registration form that is shown to you, indicating your date of birth, your telephone number or address e-mail with which you wish to subscribe in the appropriate text fields that are shown to you.
Then press the arrow button to continue, confirming the data entered and also set the password to access your account. At the end of the registration, the access will be done automatically.
How to use two accounts on TikTok
After registering again with TikTok, in order to use two different accounts in the app, you must log out from the one currently connected and, subsequently, you must log in to the second account you intend to use.
Having said that, to disconnect from TikTok, go to your profile section by pressing the little man icon located at the bottom. Once this is done, press the icon (…) located in the upper right corner and, in the menu that is shown to you, press on Exit. Finally, confirm the operation by pressing the Confirm button.
Once disconnected, press again on the icon of the little man located in the menu below, then tap on the item Log in, in the menu that is shown to you and log in to the other account: to do this, type the email address, the name user or the phone number and password associated with the profile and press the √ button.
In addition to the official solution I told you about in the previous chapter, there are also alternative methods for having two profiles on TikTok. One of these involves the use of a second smartphone so that you can install the app again and log in to two devices simultaneously, as already mentioned in this chapter of the tutorial.
Another viable solution, more practical but valid only on Android, concerns the use of apps that “clone” the installed apps, thus allowing access to the same with multiple different accounts. In this regard, my suggestion is to use the Clone App, which you can download for free from the Play Store.
At the end of the download and installation of the app, start Clone App by pressing on its icon that you will find added to the home screen of your smartphone. At startup, consent to the requests that are shown to you and press the Add app button.
In the next screen that is shown to you, select the TikTok icon and press the Add app button, to clone it. At the end of this operation (the duration of which is only a few seconds), press the icon (…) and, in the menu that is shown to you, tap on the item Create link, to add the app icon “cloned “on your smartphone’s home screen.
Now, press the TikTok app icon to start it, then log in to your second account by pressing on the Login item and following the instructions I provided in the previous chapter.
Once logged in, you can use both TikTok accounts, simply by switching from the “cloned” TikTok app to the “normal” app, whose icons will both be found on your device’s home screen.
How to do live on TikTok
After hearing so much about it, in the end, you too decided to create your account on TikTok, the famous platform (previously known as musical.ly) that allows you to share short 15-second clips online, or less, in which the so-called “lip-sync” is performed, ie pretending to sing or recite certain scenes with pre-recorded audio. You already have a good following on this social network, which is mainly frequented by teenagers, and you would like to create more direct contact with your audience by taking advantage of the function that allows you to start direct streaming.
If you want, in the next paragraphs of this guide, I can explain exactly how to do this. Before going into the subject and actually seeing how to do it live on TikTok, however, I want to make a necessary clarification. At the time of writing, the function that allows you to start direct streaming is active only for users who have reached the threshold of 1,000 followers. We do not know whether in the future the function will be activated even for those who have less, so it is not said that you will be able to complete your “business”.
If you meet the requirement that I have just indicated, I would say that we can finally proceed. Courage: make yourself comfortable, take all the time you need to focus on reading the next paragraphs and, more importantly, try to implement the directions I will give you. You will see that, if you follow my “tips” step by step, you will be able to transmit live videos on TikTok without the slightest difficulty. Now I have nothing else to do, except to wish you happy reading and have fun!
Well! Now that you know what it is, how it works and how to use TikTok you just have to download the app and start making funny videos and build your following on this platform!
